"I’ve known Ken for several years…and what a coincidence…we share the same birthday! The first thing you notice as Ken arrives for a shoot is one serious guy. He spends a few minutes scouting the overall environment, then shifts to the scene of the shoot…checking the light, looking for distracting elements and, most of all, looking at faces. I hired Ken for a big conference I stage every other year at the University of Utah and he just launched into it like there was no tomorrow. This is a guy who gets right to work and delivers.”

— Lynn de Freitas, Executive Director, FRIENDS of Great Salt Lake

“Ken has been a volunteer with us for seven years, all of that time given to our Water Conservation Garden, which features plants native to low-water, high-desert environments. When he’s not “groveling in the dirt” (his words, not mine!!) he comes around either early in the morning or during the evening golden hour to take pictures of whatever is in bloom at the time. We love posting his photos in our weekly volunteer newsletter. His close-ups are spectacular, but he’s also one of our top people photographers. He’s super easy to work with and delivers excellent pictures on short notice.”

— Julie Duckett, Volunteer Coordinator, Red Butte Garden & Arboretum, University of Utah

“I met Ken in early 2025 as he shifted from an “elderly” camera into one of Nikon’s latest mirrorless units—the Z5.II. Ken selected this upper-level camera rather than one of the super high- end units because his focus on candids and environmental portraits simply did not merit spending extra thousands on gear I knew he’d characterize as “overkill.” Ken is highly focused on his craft and regularly turns out photos that, as he likes to say, capture “moments of joy.” I know photos (I’m a wedding photographer when I’m not in the store), and Ken’s are outstanding. He is also one of the most engaging customers I’ve served in a long time, a quality that is essential in the pursuit of clients.”

“My and Ken’s paths have crossed for decades, although the pinnacle of our working relationship occurred over several years at Harmons, the Utah grocery company, where Ken ran the Draper, Utah store’s cooking school from 2010 to 2013 and I was the wine educator. Ken set up the room like he owned the place, demonstrating sensitivity to creating a welcoming environment for both wine connoisseurs as well as total newbies. He was a great opening act as well, introducing guests to what they could expect once I took over. As class began, he took out his camera and started shooting.

Fast forward to 2025, when I hired Ken to shoot a prestigious wine and culinary event at Snowbird Resort’s Aerie Restaurant, one of the few legacy fine-dining establishments here in northern Utah. Ken won hearts and minds in no time among a rather august entourage of serious wine people and pumped out at least a hundred great photos. He also went out of his way to capture the mountain resort’s singular features by spending several hours prior to the event shooting location and hotel shots plus “back-of-the-house” photos in the kitchen. His work ethic is outstanding…his devotion to capturing the spirit of the moment was my primary rationale for hiring him.”

“As you might expect, SUWA deploys several photographers who specialize in shooting remote but spectacular locations throughout what we call redrock country. When it comes to local events, however, where the subjects are people, Ken’s work is top-notch. As a firm believer in our mission, Ken devotes his time to us on a pro bono basis and needs virtually no direction to get out there and get the shots. Our members are insanely devoted to environmental preservation…I’m hardly exaggerating here…and Ken captures this sentiment in his photos. I would heartily recommend him if you’re looking to hire a “git’r done” photographer.”

– Nicole Milavetz, Utah Organizer for SUWA, the Southern Utah Wilderness Alliance

“I would consider myself one of Ken’s secret weapons. Years ago, Ken was a colleague of my parents in a small—we would call that “boutique” today—advertising and design studio that routinely turned out some really fine work. Ken was a “creative” before the word was in vogue and wrote most of the copy for most of the clients. He turned to me this year for my creative energy to develop this website and advise on the most relevant social channels.

I’ve worked on very large and very successful national accounts for decades so I know what’s good, and I know how to navigate and push through the choppy waters of marketing. Ken’s people pics rival those of other well-established shooters, and his way of winning hearts and minds among clients is impressive.”

“This goes back a while to approximately 2011-2012 when I was the Store Director for Harmons’ Bangerter Crossing store in Draper where Ken ran our Cooking School. Ken was about as dependable as a person can be in terms of writing class descriptions, posting classes online, being the stand-up comedian as each class began, supporting the chef as skills were taught and handling clean-up after class. Ken brought his camera to most classes to shoot photos of happy campers who were, as I saw it, happy customers, too! You can see that instantly in his photos. While a strong work ethic was not always a "thing" among grocery employees, Ken rose to and above the occasion every day.”
